About

I grew up on jobsites. Now I run my own.

Carter Schimpff, builder. Hearthside & Co. Renovations.

I’m Carter Schimpff. I build high-end residential renovations in a small set of San Antonio neighborhoods, and I run every project myself.

I grew up on Hearthside Homes jobsites. My father, Skip Schimpff, founded Hearthside Homes in 1987, and from the time I was old enough to carry a level I was around framers, finish carpenters, plumbers, and tile setters. I learned how a house actually goes together by watching it happen, then by doing it myself.

Over the years I worked across nearly every trade on a jobsite. That hands-on knowledge is the reason I can stand in your kitchen and tell you what a project will really take, and what it will really cost, before anything gets demoed.

For years, people who knew our building work kept asking me the same question. Do you do renovations? Eventually the answer was yes. I built Hearthside & Co. Renovations to bring the same standard to remodeling that my family has brought to custom homes for nearly four decades.

The lineage

Built on nearly four decades of Hearthside Homes.

Hearthside & Co. Renovations is the sister company to Hearthside Homes, Inc., the custom home builder my father started in 1987. The renovation you hire me for sits on top of more than 600 homes and nearly forty years of building. Same family, same standards, focused on remodeling.

Timeline

How I got here.

1987

My father founds Hearthside Homes in San Antonio.

Childhood

I spend it on jobsites, learning the trades by hand.

The trades

I work across framing, finish carpentry, and every discipline a renovation touches.

Today

I run Hearthside & Co. Renovations, a focused practice for a few neighborhoods.

Where I work

A few neighborhoods, done right.

I keep my work close to home, on purpose. Staying inside a small set of neighborhoods means I am never far from your project, and I can be there in person when it matters. That is a feature of how I work, not a limitation.

  • Alamo Heights
  • Terrell Hills
  • Olmos Park
  • Mahncke Park
  • Castle Hills

Mahncke Park and Castle Hills are adjacent neighborhoods I also serve.

What I don’t take on

Knowing the edges of the work.

Part of doing good work is being honest about what isn’t mine to do.

Not commercial

I build for homes, not offices, retail, or restaurants.

Not handyman work

Small repairs and jobs under roughly $10K go to Atelier by Hearthside, the maintenance practice.

Not the Hill Country

My renovation work stays inside San Antonio proper, close to the neighborhoods I serve.

Let’s talk about your project.

If your home is in one of my neighborhoods and you’re thinking about a renovation, I’d like to hear about it. I’ll come see the space in person.
